Bed Party Checklist: Everything You Need to Pull It Off
Planning a bed party is one of those things that feels a little overwhelming at the start but becomes very manageable once you break it down into a simple list. This checklist walks you through everything from the first idea all the way to the final reveal so nothing gets forgotten and the whole setup comes together smoothly.
Before You Start Shopping
Before you buy anything take a few minutes to think about the person you are celebrating. Getting clear on these things first will make every decision after much easier.
Ask yourself:
- What colors do they love
- Is there a theme that fits them
- What is the occasion
- How much space do I have to work with
Step by Step Setup Guide
Follow these steps in order and the whole process will feel much more manageable. Each step builds on the one before it so by the time you get to the end everything feels natural. Step one is bedding. Pick a comforter or duvet in a color or pattern that works for your theme. This is your foundation so take your time. Step two is layering. Add a throw blanket and stack decorative pillows in front of the sleeping pillows.
Use:
- Different sizes
- Different textures
- At least two or three extra pillows
to build depth and make the bed feel full and intentional.
Step three is lighting. String lights are one of the simplest and most effective touches you can add.
You can drape them:
- Around the headboard
- Along a shelf or curtain rod
- Loosely along the wall near the bed
Step four is wall decoration. This is where you personalize the space.
Choose from:
- A banner above the bed
- Large letter balloons
- Removable wall decals
or a combination of all three.
Step five is balloons. Floor level balloons in clusters near the bed add a lot of visual impact quickly and they photograph really well.
Step six is the nightstand. Do not forget the surfaces near the bed. A small arrangement, a framed photo, or even just a candle can add a lot without taking up much space.
Step seven is your personal touch. Write a note and leave it on the pillow. This costs nothing and it is the thing they will remember longest.
Your Complete Shopping List
Most of these items can be found easily through Amazon. You can also browse organized collections over at collegebedpartyessentials.com where everything is already pulled together for this exact kind of setup. Here is everything you need:
- Comforter or duvet in your chosen color
- Decorative throw pillows in varying sizes
- A cozy throw blanket
- String lights for the headboard or walls
- A banner or letter balloons
- Floor balloons in coordinating colors
- Themed items personal to the recipient
- A handwritten note for the pillow
Final Thoughts
Do the setup when the person is not home and have someone keep them out of the room until everything is ready. The first impression moment is everything. Give them that moment fully and capture it if you can because it is one of those reactions that is absolutely worth having on camera. A bed party takes a little planning but it always comes together beautifully.
